We return to the report that we have carried out at Limobel Inwo on trends in design and innovation in work spaces. In the first part, we summarize such fundamental aspects as the flexibility and adaptability of jobs, related to concepts such as workplace well-being, ergonomics and health in offices.

In this second part, the study focuses on innovation innovation at the service of sustainability and ecodesign. The entire study poses transversal challenges and objectives, with non-sealed concepts that cross each other. Saying design is talking about sustainability; Talking about technology is equivalent to workplace well-being. For it to work, everything has to be interrelated and be pieces of the same mechanism.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, identified by 69,2% of participants as high-impact emerging technologies, are redesigning workflow. From virtual assistants that facilitate administrative tasks to predictive algorithms, AI is becoming an essential component of the work environment.

This technological evolution increases productivity and redefines the work experience, establishing a new standard of efficiency and comfort.

Furniture manufacturers and architects are embracing these advancements, creating furniture and spaces that sync with emerging technology. Design solutions now incorporate smart elements, such as workstations that automatically adjust to the user's comfort preferences or meeting rooms equipped with augmented/virtual reality technology for remote collaborations.

Our study highlights that 74,4% of professionals emphasize the use of recycled and reusable materials. In addition to the selection of materials, professionals are implementing strategies to optimize energy efficiency (53%), such as the use of efficient lighting and air conditioning systems.


Maximizing the use of natural light to reduce dependence on artificial lighting is also a priority for 71,8% of the professionals consulted.

Efficient water management and choosing suppliers committed to sustainability are additional aspects considered in the design of work spaces.


74,4% of the responses emphasize sustainability and the use of eco-friendly materials. This reflects a growing awareness of the environmental impact of workspaces and a commitment to more responsible and sustainable design practices. On the other hand, the optimization of energy efficiency (53,8%) and the promotion of construction materials with low environmental impact (43,6%) are key strategies to reduce the environmental impact in the design of work spaces.

The aim is to create offices that are not only functional and aesthetically attractive, but also respectful of the environment. The use of these materials allows us to reduce the carbon footprint and promote a more ethical and responsible supply chain.

Challenges in promoting sustainable furniture

Architects and designers face the challenge of not only designing sustainable spaces, but also convincing their clients to invest in sustainable offices and furniture. Despite their clear environmental and social benefits, the higher cost of these products is often seen as a barrier. Here, education and awareness play a crucial role. 

Professionals should focus on communicating that sustainable furniture is not an expense, but an investment in the future of the company and the planet. Furthermore, they should highlight how these products can improve the quality of the work environment and, in the long term, be economically beneficial due to their durability and efficiency.

Broadly speaking, the study suggests three lines of action for the coming years:

  • Happiness and well-being at work emerge as crucial factors, driving designs that promote mental and physical health, and encourage a balance between work and personal life.

These trends, supported by recent data, outline a more connected, sustainable and humanized future of work. The workspaces of the future will not only reflect diversity and flexibility, but will also be aligned with emerging trends in technology and sustainability, setting the stage for a revolution in office design.

Our study indicates that 72,2% see the creation of inspiring and stimulating workspaces as essential to attract and retain talent. This trend evidences a shift toward offices that not only satisfy practical needs, but also resonate emotionally with employees. The emerging generation look for spaces that reflect your values ​​and promote a deeper connection to your workplace. 

It is crucial that business leaders promote a work culture that values ​​generational diversity, adapting its policies and work environment to reflect and meet the needs and expectations of a diverse workforce.

In the future, architects, designers and manufacturers will need to consider how different generational groups They interact and relate to their work spaces. This means designing offices that are flexible, able to adapt to diverse preferences and work styles, and that incorporate design elements that promote creativity and collaboration. 

The challenge for manufacturers will be to offer furniture that is not only functional, but also capable of inspiring and motivating, ranging from classic pieces to avant-garde innovations that reflect the culture and identity of the company.

The design of today's office spaces must balance relaxed café-type areas to attract younger generations, with traditional corporate areas for older generations, ensuring an inclusive and productive work environment for all.

Furthermore, the preference of 72.2% of users for remote work suggests an inclination towards flexibility and autonomy. 

Companies should prioritize employee well-being, implementing work-life balance policies and integrating elements of nature into their workspaces to improve satisfaction and productivity.

In the future, architects and designers will need to incorporate more natural elements and outdoor spaces in their designs, creating environments that encourage relaxation and disconnection and improve concentration and productivity. This includes the integration of gardens, terraces and outdoor seating areas.
